Weekend in Milaca-laca, K-pop, and Lee Min Ho

Mitch and I went up to Milaca this weekend.  It was bomb.  Here are some pics.

Ernie lurkin' around the kitchen.  Mom made fried fish!

Next time you watch Little Miss Sunshine, look for these sheets in their bedroom.  Hint: I have the same sheets!

A page from this great Mario book I had as a kid

FLYING KIRARA!  You had to be there.

Got this from my lurvely pal Cory a loooong time ago.  ITSMAHFAVCAREBEAR

Best. book. evar.  It's basically a novelization of Pokemon Yellow.  Bad-ass, right?

My senior year, I started having some stress issues.  Mr. Palmer, my English teacher (and Speech/Drama coach) gave me this.  It usually hung on his wall, but since he was retiring, well, I adopted it.

Aaaaahhh.  Waking up to a beautiful morning.

I made veggie chili for my parents Saturday night.  They say they liked it... :)

Over the weekend, I read Fons Trompenaars' Riding the Waves of Culture, and this book, Children, Gender, Video Games.  I also ate almost an entire bag of Cool Mint Oreos.

And here's what I've been listening to:

And here's what I've been looking at (lawl):

Lee Min Ho, from Boys Over Flowers, a Korean drama

The end.  Next up: 月曜日! And a Kanji quiz in Japanese.

Scholarship Weekend's The Big Show

HEY!

So last weekend was what Augsburg refers to as "Scholarship Weekend."  Prospective students competing for our President's and Fine Arts (studio art, choir, band, film, and theater) Scholarships came to Augsburg for a Friday and Saturday, to, well, compete.  They go through interviews, auditions, surprise essays...all sorts of things.  There was a big blizzard the year I competed (I'm a President's Scholar, but I also competed for two Fine Arts Scholarships), so we had to cram everything into that Saturday, but it was OK.  I spent that Friday with Mitch.  :)

Anyway, here are some pics from The Big Show.  They're all courtesy of Kendra Christiansen, a current Auggie majoring in Biopsychology (and she works in the Admissions Office, and is a professional photographer)!  She's a pretty cool gal.  Here's her website, if you're interested in more of her photos/contacting her for a photo shoot.  http://kendraelizabethphotography.com/blog/

Matt and I had fifteen minutes to pump up the crowd.  I think it went well.  :D

Game Informer, law school, and Japanese

おはよう!  Good morning!

I have to catch the ACTC bus in about a half hour (it picks me up at Augsburg at 10:03 A.M.), but that's enough time to catch you all up on what I've been doing the last week or so.

First off: Mitch got into law school!  So far, he's been accepted at William Mitchell College of Law and Hamline University Law School.  He's got his deposit for William Mitchell all ready to be mailed, but he figures he should wait until he hears from St. Thomas before he commits to anything.  In any case, he can officially say he's going to law school next fall.  I've always been sort of "meh" about his decision to go.  On one hand, he has to take out a crap ton (more) in student loans, but on the other hand, even recently-graduated lawyers make a crap ton of money.  That is, if they do well enough in school to get into a good firm.  So I'll be Mitch's external conscience for the next four years, pushing him to do his homework even when he's too tired to keep his eyes open.  I support you, Mitch!

So what about me: Well, I'm officially a Japanese minor!  Of course, I still have to finish another two semesters (three, including this one) of language classes, and I have to take an independent study (some sort of cultural component) through St. Thomas, but I'm not too worried.  I'm about halfway to completion of the minor already (what, with my study abroad and independent study coursework).  So when everything is said and done, I'll have two majors and a minor.  Crazy!

Last thing for now: Guess what I did last Saturday?  Had coffee with Phil Kollar, Associate Editor of Game Informer!  For those unaware, Game Informer, a monthly video game magazine, has around 3 million subscribers.  That means more people subscribe to Game Informer than other bigwigs like Time, Sports Illustrated, Maxim, Cosmopolitan, and Newsweek.  So it's not exactly what you would call a niche publication (though, arguably, it appeals to a niche...a very, very large niche).  Anyway, I had coffee with Phil at the Common Roots Cafe on Lyndale.  We chatted about his path to Game Informer, grad school, politics, religion, and a slew of other things.  It was pretty darn cool.  Duh, right?
